Luck of the draw due to IP address reputation. I host my email on a $5 VPS, but the IP has mapped to my VPS for like 15 years so it's fine.

You never really know though, do you? Some things are ending up in spam and you don't know which ones.
This is why mailbox providers provide feedback, and let you see how they see your IP and domain reputation. Google Postmaster Tools is free to set up. I also suggest feedback loops, which most major mailbox providers support. There are also a plethora of free lookup tools that will tell you about the history of an IP. If you spin up a VPS and get a crappy IP, just destroy it and create a new one and check it's IP. Lather, rinse, repeat until you get an IP that either doesn't have a negative rep, no reputation, or you get lucky and get the IP from my last VPS that had a stellar IP rep. until I moved to a new VPS provider.
