Taxes aren't included in the US prices; I'd have to pay 1138USD for the 256GB model, which is 1593AUD, so it's only a 16AUD premium over where I live.
Australian sticker price includes 10% GST so the correct way to compare is to take the tax free US price, convert that to AUD and add 10%. Applying that process yields $1633 AUD so the sticker price we get is actually better than the US price.
What makes that way more correct than comparing the actual final total someone pays in the US vs what someone pays in AU?

It’s hard to meaningfully compare prices across countries due to differences in tax regimes.
That is nothing, less than 10%.
Ther are countries that get it at 100% or even 200% more.
Which is actually good, as it includes GST.
