I guess I learn something new about the HN crowd every day. When I loaded the page, half of the first screen were videos by IDW folks.
Pro tip for YouTube proper - turn off history and only view the “subscribed” page, and search for content that you really want to see. Oh and of course turn off autoplay and limit shorts to 0 views per day.

Yes. It appears to be random but the first time I loaded the page, on mobile, half of the videos featured well known IDW and populist types like Joe Rogan. So hardly what I would expect from culling recommended videos by a technical crowd.
I think you may have just gotten a bad roll since I have been scrolling on it for some time and haven’t seen any videos in that category. But I agree that that isn’t what I’d expect from the HN crowd
