I’ve always hated that book. It was a cope to blame management for every poor outcome. “We didn’t ship because leadership gave us too many resources”. Sorry that your steak is too juicy and your sheets are too soft.
There are a hundred other reasons that software is late. You have to be brain dead to think that putting more people on the job is even in the top 10 .
at my current job alone, i can count over 5 times in the last 5 years where mgmt threw people at a problem and didn't actually help if not hurt.
now, leadership will never admit they're wrong and they act like they're heroes. but i can confidently say that they made things worse.
if they are giving you resources and you can't deliver, that's on you
the problems were due to their decisions a year before. some problems can't be solved with a half dozen extra sets of hands.
mythical man month also applies here. people with no context cost something to get ramped up.
