Okay, I mean outside of the good PR reasons and as a hook for getting companies onto the API.
I thought you would have also mentioned the use they make of data collected from loss leader subscribers, from at least those that don't disable collection.
With that, there are at least three distinct reasons to care about subs: PR, hook and training data.
