Oh yeah I would not do things like joins but for simple filtering I have found that it works very well. Of course if I knew I needed to filter on that value beforehand it would not be in a json column but I found that it's sufficient enough that it beats doing a re-architecture or dual writes if you realize you actually do need to do a filter after the fact
