I think Sierra games like Leisure Suit Larry had that (F11) if I recall correctly. Priceless.
My favorite was the one in Space Quest III. Instead of showing you a spreadsheet, it would pop up a dialog making it clear that you've been playing a game, and would state exactly how long you'd been playing it. You'd have to dismiss multiple such dialogs before you could get back to the game.

Oh my God that's a nostalgia rush. I loved that game. I was impossible hard but so rewarding.
