I use a $5 VPS + $3 for 0.5gb of block storage to host shitty video game clips I want to share with my friends. Soon I'm going to see if I can stack some google photos alternative on top of that without it giving up. I also use it as a vpn endpoint and a gateway to expose access to a minecraft server that dynamically provisions a an AWS machine and turns on only when someone tries to connect to the VPS' IP. The last one has probably already saved me hundreds of dollars that I would otherwise pay for a dedicated machine to run a server on 24/7 even if none of my friends are playing on it.

What's the benefit of this over an unlisted YouTube video? I suppose there are many valid philosophical reasons to not want to use it.
Pretty minimal benefit honestly. I just did this because at the time the youtube uploader my ShareX client had was broken
