MS has been particularly extreme for longer (decades, at least). Surely it is a statement of intent to others as well anyway.
Rather surprised MS didn't kiss the ring enough to avoid this or offer to fund the renovations to the Trump Kennedy Center.
Perhaps they performed appropriate groveling and flattery before the naked emperor, but he forgot.
