I grew up in a cult, too. They were very eager and sincere. I'm very familiar with "eager and sincere" hiding incoherent motivated reasoning and savior complexes that give their adherents cover to behave both stupidly and horridly -- with a smile.

I'm not going to ignore the weird sex cults, the arrogance, the bizarre arguments, or the bad actors.
