From what I recall, the only people actually eating Tide pods were elderly folks with dementia. The kids were joking about it a lot, though.
My favorite bumper sticker from when the Millennials were in college was a riff on the old "I {$cause}, and I vote" from the 80's:
"I eat Tide Pods, and I vote"
Most Millenials were 30+ when the Tide Pod trend happened. It was solidly a Gen Z thing.
Surely that meme was after millennials had already graduated
