I went upstream and started using Debian instead. Don't listen to the haters: it updates at about the same frequency as Ubuntu LTS.
Or just use Arch, and skip the pointless hype squad

SteamOS switched from Debian to Arch for a reason.
Or Pop!_OS that does not vibe slop their distro.
