People really need to just not visit it. You don’t need to browse Twitter to be on top of current events. Anything posted there will be available elsewhere within minutes (and hopefully it will have been vetted somewhat)
Who uses twitter for current events? I’m there for extremely niche hobby related posts.

Unfortunately not a luxury for all events.
Some organizations only post information on Twitter, especially those with limited resources. And if their followers are themselves limited in number, then that information is not disseminated.
For example, the Dutch Air Force is currently posting updates on their ongoing airborne exercise exclusively on Twitter: https://www.defensie.nl/onderwerpen/f/falcon-leap
Do you need updates about the Dutch Air Force's ongoing airborne exercise or can you just ignore that exercise? If they weren't posting it on Twitter but were only performing it for a live audience, would you clamor to be part of that audience? Or are you only interested because of the fact it's on Twitter?
It's the daily schedule I want. The exercise lasts 12 days and has a variable daily schedule that is posted day-of exclusively on Twitter. I have no interest in Twitter; I just want to know what time they'll fly by.
Yeah as long as the audience is there, people will keep posting on Twitter.
Anything posted there won't be elsewhere in minutes, maybe not ever. I'd probably use Twitter if I cared a lot about current events.
given that twitter is claiming ownership over the content, I expect they will start posting takedowns when a government official say, posts the notice to both twitter and bluesky

People are entitled to their own opinions, just because you think something is wrong doesnt make it objectively wrong.
Yes, you want a space only for those who think the same as Elon Musk, with his thumb being pressed down on the algorithm which you have no choice but to use.
On Bluesky/ATProto, I am free to chose my own algorithm or my own client software and affiliate with the people I want to. My data is always my own because I can host it on my own PDS. On Mastodon, I have similar freedoms, and you can opt into bridging ATProto with ActivityPub through Bridgy Fed. I like the freedom of the open web, but I guess not everybody thinks the same as me.
Inertia, friend groups, and also a lot of countries other than the US that have no idea about US politics or don't care enough about it.
