From what I heard, the shakedown of the Swiss government over the F35 contract couldn’t have happened without the active support of many actors in the beltway.
So it seems sensible for them to doubt the intentions of many hundreds of decision makers, not just a single person.
The US singlehandedly dismantled the swiss offshore banking industry. You can’t say they were doing it for moral or legal purposes since they have now moved the activities to the US.
So, yeah, they were never their friends but they were kinda in an abusive yet still beneficial relationship.
