Isn't that just true about most things over the past century or so? They left out "staggeringly uglier" though.

An exception is probably cars, they are better, more expensive but uglier too.

Cars are slowly becoming subsidized by subscriptions and advertisements. And to some extent, costs of maintenance and gasoline.
