Are Codex users even a drop in the bucket of overall use? I mean, it's a pretty specific way to interact with the bot.
Codex usage is clearly common enough to have entered the vernacular of folks here on HN.
But we aren't everyone, and it seems likely to me that there's a lot more people in the world burning tokens using ChatGPT than there are who even know what Codex is.
It is safe to assume there are more 'normal' chat sessions than 'codex' sessions, although Codex sessions likely consume 10x the tokens the average person does asking for a lasagna recipe.
Right, sure. I can burn through some tokens with Codex. (But I can burn through some tokens with ChatGPT, too, and some people spend a lot of time there. Non-programmers use the bot for all kinds of things.)
What's the ratio of regular users to codex users, might you suppose?
If I had to guess, then I'd guess it is a minimum of 100:1, but my gut tells me that it's probably closer to 1000:1.
I think your estimate of RegularUsers:Codex users of (100:1) is probably spot on. Hard to tell, although a Reddit thread exists with an apparent number of 4.2% of "Usage" (whatever usage refers to) is Programming related. [0].
