Because a mid sized business demonstrably is able to direct the cops to harass someone with a completely legitimate grievance against them, and the cops jump at the opportunity to do exactly that, working overtime to harm people trying to literally right wrongs, and the legal system bends over backwards to ensure that a trivially provable case is not worth pursuing.
Turns out if you are mid level management in a $400 million dollar company that's all it takes to become the local "State" and ignore law.
As an engineer who doesn't give a fuck about Lego I can tell you there's almost an autistic obsession. There's a huge crossover, don't ask me why.
