BTW there were rooms in the past (2005 if I remember) where people could sit with their laptops and hack around.
There were at CCC in 2005, too, now it's all allocated to assembly groups.

And they are all quickly booked as well, if you are not there when the registration process open, you can't have a table.
Registering an assembly is trivial, but yea you definitely want to associate with one just so you don't have to carry your bag around all day.
